...or in our case it was through the mountains and in a plane, but to grandmother's house we went.
My mom, sister, our two babies and I went on a very quick trip to Oregon to visit my great grandmother last weekend. She is turning 99 on October 12th. She is losing her eyesight a little but other than that she is still so healthy. We really wanted her to be able to meet the babies and for the girls to have pictures with her. We love our grandma and it was great to visit with her and remember all the fun times we've had with her. She was always so much fun to be with. My Grandpa is her oldest son, my mom is her oldest grandchild, my brother Richard is her oldest great grandchild and Jackson is her oldest great great grandchild. She now has 4 great great grandchildren. It was a great trip, a little exhausting but very worth it. The girls did so well and I can't thank my mom enough for taking us.
On to other important news: Lily smiled. It's amazing how one little smile can make your whole day better. She is still learning how to do it so they aren't very frequent which makes each one so special.
We've had busy few weeks. I have always absolutely loved center street in Logan because of all the beautiful historic homes. One in particular that I love is the mansion owned by the Needhams and I've had a life long dream of getting to see inside it. Last weekend my dream was realized! Yes that sounds cheesy but I was so excited! There was a historic homes tour last Saturday of some homes in Cache Valley and their home was one of them. It has 40 something rooms, 3 levels and a basement. The home was once owned by the University and the football team lived there with the coach, and a fraternity also once owned it. When the Needhams purchased it 40 years ago they said there was a lot of repairing to do. The 3rd level is a ball room and some bedrooms, the 2nd level is bedrooms and a library (although the whole house is like a library--I've never seen so many books in a home), and the first level is the kitchen, sunroom, and a few living rooms. One thing that was interesting was a back staircase that led to the second level near a bedroom which is where they are guessing that the help slept because the stairs led down right by the kitchen. I just finished the book 'The Help' so seeing that made it all seem more real. They had a real garden out back that I can picture people just walking around in with pathways and bushes and a gazebo. They built a carport that looks like it has always been there and built a room over the top of it that is accessible from a balcony by their master bedroom. It was full of more books. He used to own the Book Table and still owns Books of Yesterday so it's no surprise he loves books. Mr. Needham is also an artist and he has his paintings all over the home and huge piles of them in the ballroom. He is really good. Anyway, I has in heaven looking at everything. I wish for one day I could live back in 1907 when all these homes were built and see what their lives were like.
I also just finished the book 'Emma' which I haven't read before. It was good and I couldn't remember the movie well enough so everything was still a surprise. The book made me want to improve my character (I can't believe I'm 26 or the mother of two and know that I don't act like it all the time) and also be a better judge of myself and others. Emma is constantly observing people and noticing things about them that really are telling of how they are. Even though throughout the book she misinterprets some things, a lot of the observations are helpful. There is my book report :)
Thanks for reading.....ending blogposts are still awkward for me because I don't know what to say. Not sincerely, or love you, or anything like that really fits. Any ideas?
